Penn State Harrisburg to celebrate 50th anniversary with 'We Are Weekend'

MIDDLETOWN, Pa. — Penn State Harrisburg will welcome more than 600 alumni and their families back to campus Oct. 14 to 16 for “We Are Weekend: Alumni Open House,” part of the campus' 50th anniversary celebration.

One of more than 50 events scheduled this anniversary year, the open house will provide opportunities to see all that campus has to offer, tour new and traditional spaces, meet old friends, connect with other alumni, and visit with faculty and staff. In addition, music, food, reunions, games and activities will fill the campus. 

Highlights of the weekend include the Alumni Awards Dinner, a concert featuring the Beatles cover band “Britishmania,” program reunions, and historic memorabilia displays.

Below is a full list of “We Are Weekend” events:

Friday, Oct. 14

  • Alumni Awards Dinner, honoring the 2016 awardees and past recipients.

Saturday, Oct. 15

  • Turn back time with campus tours. Reminisce in our memorabilia room and a historic dorm room. Browse the campus archives.
  • Visit the highlights of today’s campus – technologically advanced library, theater spaces, athletic facilities and our brand new Student Enrichment Center. 
  • Reunite with classmates. Reconnect with faculty and staff at program and club reunions.
  • Relive those concerts on the lawn with Britishmania, a Beatles cover band, and local artist and American studies student Corinna Joy.
  • Enjoy food from on-campus eateries, 50th anniversary commemorative ice cream flavors, and get your picture taken with the Nittany Lion. 
  • Tour our state-of-the-art nursing simulation, psychology, engineering and biofuels labs.
  • Visit other campus stops and enter to win Penn State football tickets and other prizes.
  • Shop at the brand new bookstore.
  • Meet the chancellor and other campus leaders.

Sunday, Oct. 16

  • Join activities with the Penn State Harrisburg Benefiting THON organization, the criminal justice program 30th anniversary reunion, public administration program reunion and induction, and an event in the new Russell E. Horn Sr. Spiritual Center.
