Panel discussion to highlight aspects of Penn State Reads book

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — Three experts on the internet and online communication will participate in a panel discussion from 3 to 4:30 p.m. Friday, Oct. 7, in the HUB-Robeson Center’s Freeman Auditorium to help further the discussion on the Penn State Reads book “The Circle.”

Written by Dave Eggers, “The Circle” is a dystopian novel that raises important issues about technology, privacy, ethics, capitalism, and big data. The book helps readers consider what it means to live in a world where so much of their lives is captured through modern technologies.

Johanna Slot, assistant professor of marketing in the Smeal College of Business, will moderate the discussion, titled “Digital Life, a Perspective from Theory and Practice,” among the following panelists:

  •  Liz Cantalessa, a Penn State alumna, is an advertising agency partner at Facebook and an expert on digital advertising.
  •  Angel Grant, a Penn State alumna, is a senior manager of digital marketing at LG Electronics and former advertising agency representative.
  •  Sascha Meinrath, the Palmer Chair in Telecommunications in the College of Communications, is a world-renowned technology policy expert and is internationally recognized for his work over the past two decades as a community internet pioneer, social entrepreneur and angel investor.
