Penn State Executive Programs has once again been honored by Chief Learning Officer magazine with a Learning in Practice award; this year for work with Penn State Health, the University’s health system, and its medical school, Penn State College of Medicine.
The 2016 Silver Award Excellence in Academic Partnerships Award recognizes academic institutions that have partnered with an organization to teach its employees about a key business issue. Penn State Executive Programs, the executive education provider within the Smeal College of Business, previously won CLO Gold Awards in 2010, 2012, 2014 and 2015 for work with Auntie Anne’s, Office Depot, Junior Achievement USA and Saudi Basic Industries Corporation, respectively.
“Receiving this award again reaffirms our commitment to collaborating with our clients to create innovative learning solutions that have a measurable impact on their business,” said Maria Taylor, Penn State Executive Programs managing director.
Penn State Health, with approximately $2 billion in annual revenue and more than 11,000 employees, includes the Milton S. Hershey Medical Center, St. Joseph Medical Center, Penn State Children’s Hospital, Penn State Cancer Institute and numerous Medical Group practices throughout central Pennsylvania. It is integrated with the University’s medical school, the Penn State College of Medicine.
Penn State Executive Programs partnered with Penn State Hershey to enable physicians, researchers and administrators to excel in leadership roles as it evaluated its overall strategy for its three missions of education, research and clinical care.
The majority of the participants were physicians or researchers with advanced technical expertise and no business background. Participants were taught leadership, competitive assessment, strategy formulation, strategic and financial decision-making, conflict management and collaboration.
“We are fortunate that the leadership team of Penn State Health and our College of Medicine recognizes that investing in leadership talent and development leads to a significant return on expectation,” said Dr. Jeffrey J. Miller, who is one of the founding organizers of the Leadership Academy.
Many facets of Penn State Health, which has been included on the “100 Great Places to Work in Healthcare” list, have won national and international recognition for excellence including: Penn State Children’s Hospital, Hershey Medical Center nurses, a select list of the Medical Center’s physicians and others.
The 2016 Learning in Practice Awards were announced at a special awards ceremony during the 2016 CLO Symposium+Plus on Sept. 27 in Scottsdale, Arizona. The event attracted more than 300 top corporate learning executives from around the world.
