UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. -- The Arts & Design Research Incubator (ADRI) presents “Incubate, Accelerate, Launch: How Arts and Design Fuel and Foment Research Collaboratives,” by Dr. Laurie Baefsky, executive director, Alliance for the Arts in Research Universities (a2ru), on Monday, October 10, 2:30 p.m. – 5:00 p.m. in the ADRI (16 Borland Building).
Arts and design are increasingly at the center of funded research collaborations. We will explore emerging and progressive national trends in arts and design-infused research. What are the drivers? How is it funded? Who is participating? And who persists? Challenges, new pathways, and broad strategies will be discussed.
Penn State is a founding member of a2ru, which advances the full range of arts-integrative research, curricula, programs, and creative practice to acknowledge, articulate, and expand the vital role of higher education in our global society.
“Penn State hosted a2ru's very first national conference in 2013 and has continued to set a high bar for integrated arts research,” said Baefsky. “It's great to see the ADRI tackle and forward cross-cutting engaged scholarship around key issues of our times. I applaud the College of Arts and Architecture for leading this research regionally and nationally and look forward to learning more about these efforts during my trip to State College.”
Operating within the A&A Research Office, ADRI provides seed funding, technical support, and workspace to high-impact arts and design research projects that, although often in their initial stages, have a strong probability of attracting future external funding. In keeping with goals outlined in the College’s strategic plan, ADRI projects are typically collaborative and interdisciplinary in nature, push methodological boundaries, link research and teaching, make innovative use of technology, engage with university-wide research initiatives and priorities, and have the potential to garner national and international recognition. ADRI also coordinates and hosts a range of programming designed to foster and support innovative arts research and its broad dissemination.
