Professional development conference for grad students, postdocs set for Oct. 7

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — The Schreyer Institute for Teaching Excellence will present a free professional development conference for graduate students and postdocs from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 7, in Foster Auditorium and Mann Assembly Room of Paterno Library.

Co-sponsored by the University Libraries, the conference will feature enlightening sessions facilitated by faculty and experienced graduate students. Graduate students and postdocs from any department are welcome to attend. The sessions will be most valuable for those who have an interest in teaching as part of their careers at Penn State or in the future.

Workshops will focus on:

  • Finding good mentors
  • Getting students engaged in learning
  • Communication tips for international instructors
  • Advice from new faculty
  • Preparing a teaching demo for the job search
  • Prepping undergraduate students for research
