Student work earns three regional production awards

Film and broadcast students garner equivalent of Emmy Awards

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — Work produced by students in Penn State’s College of Communications garnered three 2016 College/University Production Awards, the equivalent of regional Emmy Awards, from the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences (NATAS) Mid-Atlantic Chapter.

The winners included two film projects and one broadcast piece. Penn State student-produced work was nominated for seven awards.

Film winners:

  • Arts and Entertainment/Cultural Affairs: “Protect and Serve” (Thomas Stewart, producer; Aaron Andrews, co-director; Lauren Bogholtz, co-director)
  • Long Form, Fiction: “Carrie Hope” (Ian T. Logan, writer/director; Abigail Wilson, producer; Nick Serricchio, director of photography; Jordan Thompson, sound/editing)

Broadcast winner:

Over the past four years, programs produced in the College of Communications have earned 12 College/University Production Awards from the NATAS.

Each year, the awards recognize outstanding student achievement in production in the Mid-Atlantic region. The award is intended to be an incentive for continued pursuit of excellence by those studying media and journalism and to bring attention to outstanding achievements by students.
