— Charles E. Gibson III, doctoral candidate in higher education, was elected president of the Penn State Black Graduate Student Association (BGSA) for the 2016-17 academic year. Chartered in 1986, Penn State BGSA is a cultural graduate student organization celebrating 30 years of university service.

Kevin Kinser, professor of higher education, appeared in a recent episode of the PBS series FRONTLINE to discuss allegations of fraud and predatory behavior in the troubled, for-profit college industry. He also spoke with U.S. News and World Report about what students should know before attending an online, for-profit university.

Mindy Kornhaber, associate professor of educational theory and policy, recently spoke with WSKG News, an NPR station, about her new research investigating the amount of federal and private funds used to finance the implementation of the Common Core.

Paul Morgan, professor of education policy studies, received a $1 million grant that will be used to investigate the relationship between executive functions and academic difficulties of children with disabilities.

Paul Riccomini, associate professor of special education, will be the keynote speaker for the inaugural CIU 20 Math Symposium scheduled for Tuesday, Oct. 25, at DeSales University. His presentation, “Math: Teach it. Learn it. Love it.”, will highlight the challenges teachers face with increasing achievement levels in mathematics.
