Extreme Stater outdoor adventure race returns to Stone Valley Oct. 15

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — University Health Services (UHS) is partnering with Penn State Adventure Recreation and Stone Valley Recreational Area to host the fourth annual Extreme Stater outdoor adventure race this fall.

The event, which begins at 10 a.m. on Oct. 15, consists of a trail run and a variety of team challenges, as well as climbing and other obstacles. Prizes donated by local businesses will be awarded to participants and winners of the race.

“UHS and Health Promotion take a holistic approach to wellness, and we’re aware that students perform better academically when they have strong support systems,” said Erin Raupers, assistant director of health promotion. “This event is a beneficial and fun way for students to be active outdoors and develop lasting bonds with their peers.”

Differing from previous years’ model for the event, student participants now have the ability to choose not only the order in which they complete the obstacles, but they can also choose to compete for the winning title or simply complete the course.

Participating teams must consist of four members, two male and two female. Interested students should note that there are limited spots available, and only the first 25 teams will be admitted. Registration forms will be accepted on a first-come, first-served basis.

The cost of registration is $20 per student, totaling $80 for each team. Registration is now open, and all entries must be received by Sept. 30. Student teams can register in person between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. in 133A White Building. For more information, visit the Healthy Penn State website

University Health Services, Penn State Adventure Recreation, and Stone Valley Recreational Area are all units of Penn State Student Affairs.
