Palmer Museum of Art announces fall 2016 Docent Choice Tours

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. —The Palmer Museum of Art at Penn State invites everyone to stop by the museum on Sundays this semester to spend an afternoon in the galleries with a docent-guided tour. Tours begin at 2 p.m. in the Christoffers Lobby and will last approximately 45 minutes. Each tour will be unique and led by a different docent, focusing on an area of their particular interest. Light refreshments will be served before and afterward and all ages are welcome.

Dotty Ford, museum docent, will lead a Docent Choice Tour titled "Greek and Roman Mythology" at 2 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 11.           

Lauren Grego, museum docent, will lead a Docent Choice Tour titled "The Men of the Palmer" at 2 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 18.           

Mary Jo Everhart, museum docent, will lead a Docent Choice Tour titled "Saints Alive!" at 2 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 25.    

Gail Gilchrest, museum docent, will lead a Docent Choice Tour titled "Artists Who Didn’t Fit In . . ." at 2 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 2.

Katherine Oh Yeaple and Joanne Bennett, museum docents, will lead a Docent Choice Tour titled "Mary, Mary . . ." at 2 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 9.

Ann Hettmansperger, museum docent, will lead a Docent Choice Tour titled "Chinese Ceramics" at 2 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 16.

Laura Barthmaier, museum docent, will lead a Docent Choice Tour titled "Hello Palmer!" (A tour for families and children) at 2 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 23.

Mary Ellen Litzinger, museum docent, will lead a Docent Choice Tour titled "A Glimpse of the Gilded Age" at 2 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 30.

Sally Kalin, museum docent, will lead a Docent Choice Tour titled "New York, New York!" at 2 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 6.

Susan Hirth, museum docent, will lead a Docent Choice Tour titled "Transformed in Fire: Ceramics and Cultures of Peru" at 2 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 13.  

Karen Lintner, museum docent, will lead a Docent Choice Tour titled "Side by Side: A Comparison of Two American Paintings" at 2 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 20.  

Susan McCartney, museum docent, will lead a Docent Choice Tour titled "Pastels and More" at 2 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 4. 

Vinnie Scanlon, museum docent, will lead a Docent Choice Tour titled "Architectural Features in Paintings" at 2 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 11. 

Maureen Moses, museum docent, will lead a Docent Choice Tour titled "African-American Artists in the Palmer Museum of Art" at 2 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 18.

Exhibitions on view at the Palmer Museum of Art this fall are "Recent Acquisitions: Gifford Beal in Rockport" from Aug. 23 through Dec. 18; "The Gentle Satire of Adolf Dehn" from Aug. 30 through Dec. 18; and "Expanded Practice" from Oct. 18 through Dec. 11.

The Palmer Museum of Art at Penn State is located on Curtin Road and admission is free. Museum hours are 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday, and noon to 4 p.m. Sunday. The museum is closed Mondays and some holidays. Extended hours: 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 6, 13, 20 and 27. Reduced hours: noon to 4 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 19, through Sunday, Nov. 27, and Saturday, Dec. 17, through Thursday, Dec. 22. The museum will be closed Thursday, Nov. 24; Friday, Nov. 25; and Friday, Dec. 23, through Sunday, Jan. 1, 2017.
