UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. – The Penn State Parents Program, a unit of Student Affairs, hosted an event Aug. 19 and 20 for parents, families and guests of incoming students at University Park who are the first in their family to attend college.

The First-in-Family event provided an opportunity for these families to meet each other in a welcoming setting. The Parents Program facilitated information sessions, including a student panel, where current students spoke about their own experience as the first person in their family to attend college.

The students answered questions about security on campus, finances, housing options, transportation and student organizations. They also talked about how families can best support their students as they adjust to college, and when to step back. Families were encouraged to connect with the Parents Program for ongoing support throughout their students’ Penn State journey.
