WebAccess operating slowly or is unavailable

Students, faculty and staff members are experiencing issues connecting to web sites behind Penn State WebAccess, the University’s online authentication system that protects WebMail, LionPATH, Canvas, the Employee Self-Service Information (ESSIC) and more. WebAccess is currently operating slowly and at times is unavailable.

Technical staff are aware of and are working diligently to rectify the issue. Until WebAccess is completely restored, some students, faculty and staff members may still be able to access certain systems through:

  • WebMail or UCS email: As an alternative to accessing email via a web browser, users can set up an email client that will bypass the WebAccess system. For instructions on how to do this, visit http://kb.its.psu.edu/email and select “POP3” from the menu.
  • Canvas app: Users who have already downloaded the Canvas app and previously logged in should be able to access Canvas via the app.
  • LionPATH app: Users who have already downloaded the LionPATH app and previously logged in should be able to access LionPATH via the app.

The issues being experienced are not problems within such systems as LionPATH, Canvas or any of the other web sites behind WebAccess. Rather, those systems are unavailable because of the issues with WebAccess.

At this time, the IT Service Desk is aware of the issue and can provide limited assistance, such as helping users set up an email client. Students at University Park campus who would like assistance setting up an email client can go to the Knowledge Commons in Pattee Library.

Ongoing updates will be shared in Penn State News and via various University social media channels as new information becomes available.
