'Representing Nittany': Showcasing the art of the greater Penn State community

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — "Representing Nittany" is a traveling exhibition that is about community, in particular a diverse community of artists unified by Penn State. The exhibition is the result of a collaborative curatorial effort by three local artist venues: the Lemont Arts Festival, the Green Drake Gallery in Millheim, and the Penn State School of Visual Arts' HumpDay Gallery.

"Representing Nittany" highlights the multifaceted talent of those who have had a relationship, in some form or another, with Penn State, including artists, current Penn State students, professors, local high school students, faculty, staff and alumni.

Over the summer the exhibition traveled from the Art Alliance of Central Pennsylvania in Lemont during Arts Fest in July to the Green Drake Gallery in Millheim. On Monday, Aug. 22, it will be on display in the Penn State School of Visual Arts' HumpDay Gallery, with an opening reception scheduled for 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 24, on the first floor of the Visual Arts Building.

Curatorial statement:
In a wonderful collection of work we are able to present a full range of style, content and mediums under the umbrella of art and artists of our greater Pennsylvania and Penn State community. It is a triumph for talented people to continue to contribute to non-urban art communities by engaging not only in their craft but the exhibition of their accomplishments. It is the pleasure of the curators of Lemont Fest 2016, the Art Alliance, the Green Drake Gallery, and HumpDay to organize a traveling exhibition that reinvests in those who continue to allow our artist community to grow and thrive. Through "Representing Nittany" we are able to present the past, present, and future talent of the greater Penn State and Pennsylvania community.
