Liberal Arts names marshal for summer commencement

Andrew Wade, son of Mark Allen Wade of Fort Pierce, Florida, has been selected as the student marshal representing the College of the Liberal Arts at Penn State’s summer commencement ceremony, set for Aug. 13 at the Bryce Jordan Center on the University Park campus. Wade is graduating with bachelor’s degrees in Chinese and Asian studies. Named to the dean’s list several times, he is also being recognized with High Distinction.

Active in the Penn State community, Wade has served in a number of positions assisting international students in order to allow them the opportunity of a seamless assimilation into American culture. He spent the last year studying at the Beijing Foreign Studies University in China through a Foreign Language and Area Studies Fellowship.

His future plans include continuing to work with international students. He would also like to work with universities domestically and internationally in order to better equip potential students with the cultural tools and knowledge to be successful in the American classroom.

"The College of the Liberal Arts has provided me with opportunities I never imagined,” Wade said. “The resources provided by the college have been essential to my journey through university by providing me with scholarships and chances to meet with professionals working in careers similar to my intended path. I believe that though the College of the Liberal Arts I have been prepped for success, with the confidence to pursue my goals."
