Pecile named student marshal for summer commencement

Morgan Pecile is the College of Education’s student marshal for Penn State’s summer commencement ceremony, scheduled for 10:30 a.m. Aug. 13 at the Bryce Jordan Center. Pecile selected Jason Whitney to escort her as the college’s faculty marshal.

Pecile, from Drums, Pennsylvania, will graduate with a bachelor’s degree in secondary education English/communications, with minors in English and kinesiology. Kathleen Shannon has served as her academic adviser.

She is a member of both the Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi, the nation’s oldest multidisciplinary collegiate honor society, and of Pi Lambda Theta, a national honor society for educators.

Pecile gained student-teaching experience at Bellwood-Antis High School in Bellwood, Pennsylvania, where she taught English, journalism and debate courses in ninth and 10th grade; designed differentiated instruction and activities to reach diverse learners; and created and taught a creative writing unit during which students were introduced to different platforms of creative writing, among other activities.

She also taught English in seventh and 10th grade at Xavier High School in Albury, New South Wales, Australia, where she effectively integrated 1-to-1 Chromebook technology into the classroom, and worked closely with a team of six teachers to instruct two combined 90-student Year 7 English classes.

Pecile is a member of the Sigma Alpha Iota International Music Fraternity, Eta Phi Chapter, in which she held a variety of leadership roles including vice president of ritual, editor, vice president of membership and recording secretary. She also is a member of the Blue and White Society, the student contingent of the Penn State Alumni Association.

Pecile’s parents, Jordan and Michele Pecile; her brother, Jordan; her grandmother, Helen Sofianek; her fiancé, William Lingenfelter; and her best friend, Aimee Latella plan to attend the ceremony.

Pecile has been applying for secondary English teaching positions in Pennsylvania and Maryland. She’s hoping to start teaching next school year.
