ESPCE to host staff event

The administrative support staff in Education Psychology, Counseling and Special Education (ESPCE) will hold the second annual “Sweet Summer Social” for staff members in the College of Education at 3 p.m. Aug. 10, outside of CEDAR Building. College to host Canvas training

The College of Education will provide a full-day, hands-on Canvas training from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 16, in 214 and 224 Chambers Building. Lunch will be provided. Canvas Day for the College of Education will be led by ITS Training Services with assistance from the college’s CETC staff. Iris Striedieck, Canvas liaison for the college, also will be on hand to answer questions and provide assistance. Participants should bring their own laptops to the training.

ITS announces SummerFest II schedule

Penn State’s Information Technology Services will offer a second SummerFest training session Aug. 15-19. The sessions primarily will focus on Canvas, Penn State’s new learning management system, and LionPATH, the new student information system that will replace ISIS and eLion. The training opportunities are free and available online, and will introduce participants to the new systems and provide tips to aid in the transition to these platforms. Penn State World Campus to offer RHS course

RHS 301: Introduction to Counseling as a Profession is now available through Penn State World Campus. One of the most popular courses in the Rehabilitation and Human Services (RHS) program, the course orients students to the various aspects of counseling, including theories and research, interventions, skills-based models, and populations served. The course is open to all Penn State students and there are no prerequisites. Regional alumni events scheduled for Aug. 20

The College of Education will host two alumni events in Easton, Pennsylvania, on Saturday, Aug. 20. The event will include a mule-drawn boat ride at the National Canal Museum at 3 p.m. and the Crayola Experience later in the evening. A special alumni dinner will start at 6 p.m. and an interactive activity where participants can name their own crayons will start at 7 p.m. There is a $5 per person fee for the National Canal Museum boat ride and $20 per person fee for the Crayola Experience. Departments to host welcome events for graduate students

The departments within the College of Education will be hosting new student orientation events for graduate students. The following is a list of departments and their corresponding events.

  • Curriculum and Instruction: New graduate student orientation will take place Aug. 15-17 with a welcome breakfast being held at 9 a.m., Monday, Aug. 15, in 121 Chambers Building. The orientation is required for doctoral students and optional for master’s students.   • Learning and Performance Systems (LPS): New graduate student orientation will be held from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Aug. 19 in Keller Building. Contact Laurie Heininger, administrative support assistant, at lah58@psu.edu for additional information.
  • Education Policy Studies (EPS): New graduate student orientation is scheduled for 9 a.m. Aug. 19 in 303 Rackley. Susan Tighe, administrative support coordinator, may be contacted at sjt11@psu.edu for more information. Individual programs within the department also may hold special events for new and returning graduate students. Information about these events may be obtained by contacting the program coordinators.
  • Educational Psychology, Counseling and Special Education (EPCSE): EPCSE currently is planning an orientation program for new graduate students and will contact students directly with details.
