CENTER VALLEY, Pa. — The Ronald K. De Long Gallery at Penn State Lehigh Valley presents “William & David Gothard, Father & Son, Humor and Pathos,” which runs Aug. 22 to Oct. 10.

An artist reception will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. on Sept. 8 at Penn State Lehigh Valley. The exhibit and reception are both free and open to the public.

William Gothard was born in Brooklyn and later resided in Pennsylvania. He passed away in 2015. He was a prolific artist, working in his studio nearly every day. Though he is known best as a painter, he was an excellent draftsman. His drawings offer additional insight into his process and sensibilities. He deftly recorded his humorous observations of man's folly, his outrage over injustice and his tenderness for his family.

His son, David, inherited this passion for drawing and chose a career in illustration. He graduated from Pratt Institute in Brooklyn, where he now teaches drawing classes in the fine arts department. As an illustrator, David has been a regular contributor to the opinion pages of major publications, where he infuses his drawings with humor and pathos. He has also created art for advertising campaigns and children's books. This exhibit reveals the artistic continuity between father and son.

Gallery hours are 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Thursday, 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Fridays, and 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturdays. The gallery is closed on Sundays. For more information, contact Ann Lalik, gallery director, at annlalik@psu.edu or 610-285-5261, or visit the Art Exhibition website.
