UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — The faculty general manager of ComRadio, the internet-based radio station housed in the College of Communications at Penn State, has been named to his alma mater’s radio hall of fame in part for his work with the student-driven station and for his broadcasting career built on nearly 40 years of experience.

Jeff Brown, a longtime radio personality in central Pennsylvania who currently serves as the morning drive host on “The Bus,” WBUS-FM (93.7), has been a lecturer at the University since 2001 and the general manager of ComRadio since its inception in 2003. He was recently announced as a member of the inaugural Slippery Rock University Radio Hall of Fame. Members of the hall of fame class will be officially inducted on Oct. 21.

Brown launched his radio career at Slippery Rock in 1977. He joined the radio station while studying to be a kindergarten teacher, and eventually moved fully into radio.

Under his guidance, ComRadio has grown from a staff of 13 students in 2003 to more than 200. Those students work on teams for news, sports, production, sales and management. The station produces a variety of public affairs and talk shows, broadcasts a nightly newscast and provides coverage of most Penn State sports, as well as some State College Area High School athletic events. During the 2015-16 academic year, ComRadio produced more than 930 hours of live Penn State varsity sports coverage.

In addition, ComRadio was the first student media entity in the nation to cover the NFL Draft in its entirety from start to finish in 2009. In 2016, the station completed its eighth consecutive year of that coverage.

Over the years, ComRadio students have won numerous state and national awards for their work while alumni have moved into roles with broadcast outlets, large and small, across the nation. Among the major outlets where ComRadio alumni work are the Big Ten Network, CBS News, CBS Sports, ESPN and the SEC Network.

ComRadio be found online, or with the Tune In radio app on portable devices.
