UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — Ten elected and 10 appointed members will begin three-year terms July 1 on the Penn State Alumni Association’s governing body, Alumni Council.
Results of the 2016 Alumni Council elections were announced on June 1. Newly elected Alumni Council members, along with their vote totals, are: C. Jay Hertzog (4,692), Kelley M. Lynch (4,152), Tracy Shillinger Riegel (4,102), William R. Scruitsky (3,869), Judy Barkus Meehan (3,726), David S. Cavanaugh (3,564), Elizabeth Park Haas (3,493), Edward J. Bardella (3,309), Liana Trigg (3,284) and John Shaffer (3,235). Each of these 10 alumni will serve a three-year term from July 1, 2016, to June 30, 2019.
Of the 149,271 eligible voters, 10,987 voted, for a voting percentage of 7.36 percent. The turnout this year is an increase from last year’s participation of 5.58 percent. The election was administered and results were certified by Votenet Solutions Inc., of Washington, D.C. Also, in accordance with the organization’s bylaws, the officers of the Alumni Association have appointed 10 members to each serve a three-year term on Alumni Council, beginning July 1, 2016, through June 30, 2019.
Newly appointed Alumni Council members are (in alphabetical order): Brian S. Binkley, Benjamin D. Clark, Kristen Larson Crossland, Matthew A. Esworthy, Wanika Fisher, Katelyn Mullen, Mark A. Poblete, Jeffrey A. Reyes, Carl B. Williams and Heather Wong.
Additionally, Tommy C. Hogan has been appointed to fill a vacated seat for the remaining two years of the affected term (2016-18).
“The elected council representatives — coupled with appointments by the officers — give the Alumni Council broad and diverse representation reflective of the alumni population we serve,” said Alumni Association President Kevin Steele. “The appointments were made with an eye toward diversity in terms of age, ethnicity, geography and skill set. I look forward to working alongside these great elected and appointed Penn Staters, who are all passionate about serving the Penn State community.”

Alumni Council is an all-volunteer governing body that advises and guides the Penn State Alumni Association on programs and initiatives that uphold its mission of service and support to Penn State.
