UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. – Professor A. Ravi Ravindran, a world-renowned expert on operations research, is the editor of a new book that provides guidance for decision-makers in the supply chain.

"Multiple Criteria Decision Making in Supply Chain Management" (Operations Research Series), published by CRC Press, LLC, provides a comprehensive overview of multi-criteria optimization models and methods that can be used in supply chain decision-making.

The book features contributions from internationally known authors, researchers, educators and practitioners that address the complex issue of maximizing profit and customer responsiveness while minimizing supply chain risk.

Ravindran, a faculty member in the Harold and Inge Marcus Department of Industrial and Manufacturing Engineering, has nearly 50 years of experience in academia — including nearly 30 years at Penn State — and seven books published on various operations research-related topics and methods.

The focus of the book is on the design and operation of the supply chain system. This method involves connecting many production and distribution systems — often across wide geographic distances — in such a way that the businesses involved can ultimately satisfy the consumer demand as efficiently as possible. The result leads to maximum financial returns to all of the businesses involved in the supply chain.

The book also includes several case studies on the design and operation of supply chain networks in manufacturing and health care.
