Six Nittany Lions named to All-Big Ten team

ROSEMONT, Ill. -- The 2016 All-Big Ten selections were announced on Wednesday morning and Penn State garnered six spots. Madison Cyr and Abby Smucker became two-time All-Big Ten honorees and were both unanimous selections.

Cyr and Smucker were joined by Madison Carter, Jenna Mosketti, Steph Lazo and Katie O'Donnell. Penn State and Maryland each has six players honored. The six all-conference honors match that of the 2003 team when Penn State had six All-ALC selections.

Cyr, a 2016 Tewaaraton Award nominee, is having a career senior season by leading the team in goals (47), points (63), shots (105), ground balls (28) and caused turnovers (30). Cyr has scored in every game this season and is currently on a 25-game scoring streak dating back to last year. This season, Cyr has tallied at least two points in every game and has 10 hat tricks.

Smucker, who converted to defense last season, is again having another stellar year for the Nittany Lions. Smucker has been one of the top marking defenders on the team and has posted career highs in draw controls (21) and caused turnovers (21), while scooping 23 ground balls. Smucker received unanimous selection to the 2015 All-Big Ten team and was the 2015 Big Ten Tournament MVP.

Carter has been one of the top freshmen in the country by scoring 39 goals (2.44 gpg) and pulling down 54 draw controls. Both totals are second best on the team. Carter has also been named Big Ten Freshman of the Week on five occasions. In Big Ten play, Carter has averaged three goals per game, which is tied for fourth in the league.

Mosketti is a force in the middle, pulling down a team-leading 57 draw controls for a career total of 259. Mosketti has 26 goals, 24 ground balls and 12 caused turnovers as well. The honor is Mosketti's second All-Big Ten honor following a spot on the ALC team in 2013. Mosketti was named Penn State's Big Ten Sportsmanship Award representative.

Lazo, the Big Ten leader in points per game (4.80) during league play, earns her first all-conference honor. Lazo is Penn State's key distributor with a career-high 30 assists, while tossing in 27 goals for a 57-point season. Last year, Lazo was an IWLCA All-Region selection following a 50-point season. Lazo has 107 points in the last 35 games played.

O'Donnell became a first-time All-Big Ten player on Wednesday on the strength of her first 40-point season by scoring 36 times and dishing four assists. O'Donnell had a terrific sophomore season with her career-high goal total, while earning 20 draws, 11 caused turnovers and picking up 17 ground balls.
