UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — The College of Engineering will honor faculty, staff and alumni for their outstanding teaching, research, advising and service on April 27 at the Nittany Lion Inn.
The annual awards are sponsored by the Penn State Engineering Alumni Society.
Hosam Fathy, Bryant Career Development Professor in the Department of Mechanical and Nuclear Engineering, and Akhlesh Lakhtakia, Charles Godfrey Binder Professor in Engineering Science and Mechanics, will receive the Outstanding Teaching Award.
The Premier Teaching Award will be given to Michael Janik, John J. and Jean M. Brennan Clean Energy Early Career Professor in Chemical Engineering.
Enrique Gomez, associate professor of chemical engineering; Zoubeida Ounaies, Dorothy Quiggle Career Development Professor in Mechanical Engineering; Victor Pasko, professor of electrical engineering; and Sulin Zhang, associate professor of engineering science and mechanics and bioengineering, will be honored with the Outstanding Research Award.
The Premier Research Award recipient is Costas Maranas, Donald B. Broughton Professor in Chemical Engineering.
William Bahnfleth, professor of architectural engineering, will receive the World-Class Engineering Faculty Award.
Keefe Manning, associate professor of biomedical engineering; Megan Marshall, instructor in agricultural and biological engineering and biological engineering program coordinator; and Richard Mistrick, associate professor of architectural engineering, will receive the Outstanding Advising Award.
The Dean’s Circle of Excellence Award recipient is Nancy Smith, department head assistant in architectural engineering.
The Outstanding Staff Award will go to Learning Factory Supervisor William Genet.
SherryDawn Jackson, administrative support assistant in electrical engineering, will receive the Diversity and Inclusion Award.
The Staff Innovation Award goes to A. Kirk Heller, systems administrator in aerospace engineering.
Heather Hamby, administrative support assistant in civil and environmental engineering, will receive the Spirit Award.
The Rising Star Award recipients are Paul Humphreys, department head assistant in industrial and manufacturing engineering, and Melissa Showalter, coordinator for alumni, development and advancement in engineering science and mechanics.
Holly Seidel, administrative support coordinator in architectural engineering, will be recognized with the Staff Leadership Award.
The Distinguished Service Award will be presented to Glenn Bell, senior principal and CEO of Simpson Gumpertz & Heger Inc., and Dale Mosier, a 1967 engineering science alumnus.
The Young Alumni Achievement Award recipient is Alyssa Wingenfield, who graduated in 2009 with a bachelor of architectural engineering degree.
The Lawrence J. Perez Memorial Student Advocate Award will be given to Andrew Zydney, Distinguished Professor of Chemical Engineering.
