UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — Penn State will publicly release findings from its University-wide campus climate survey of students' perceptions and experiences regarding sexual misconduct on campus at a press conference Wednesday afternoon (April 13) in the HUB-Robeson Center.
Penn State conducted the survey in Fall 2015 across 23 campus locations. In the survey, student answered questions about their experiences and their awareness of University resources. The survey also asked about sexual harassment, sexual misconduct and use of alcohol.
Conducting the climate survey was one of the 18 recommendations made by the Task Force on Sexual Assault and Sexual Harassment to increase education surrounding sexual misconduct and build on efforts to fight its occurrence on campus. Penn State President Eric Barron accepted all 18 recommendations, and the University has been implementing them over the course of the past year.
In the past year, Penn State's prevention efforts have included:
- Creation of a full-time Title IX coordinator position and stand-alone office;
- Implementation of a bystander intervention program;
- Comprehensive review of all policies, programs and processes related to sexual misconduct;
- A Public Call to Action held in August 2015;
- New University-wide hotline for reporting misconduct: 800-560-1637. Reports can also be made online at http://hotline.psu.edu;
- Readily available education and information: http://www.psu.edu/share.
