Penn State to celebrate Earth Week April 18-22

Earth Day is April 22, but Penn State will start celebrating with a variety of events for students, faculty/staff and the community on April 18 for Earth Week.

What does Earth Week mean to you? Answer that question with #PSU4EARTH for your chance to win a $20 gift card in the Earth Week Instagram Contest! The contest opens Monday, April 18 and the winner will be picked on Friday, April 22, by the Environmental Resource Management Society.

The Penn State Student Farm Club invites you to join them for Dinner and a Movie with the Student Farm Monday, April 18. The Local Foods Night will be in Redifer Commons from 5-7 p.m. and will be immediately followed by a screening and panel discussion of "Just Eat It," a documentary on food waste, in 102 Thomas from 7-9 p.m. Both events are open to the public.

There will be a free screening of the award-winning film Glacial Balance from 7 to 9:30 p.m. Tuesday, April 19, in the HUB-Robeson Center’s Freeman Auditorium. A panel discussion, moderated by Penn State’s Sustainability Institute director Denice Wardrop, will follow the screening. The Sustainability Institute will also host a free public seminar with the producer, Ethan Steinman, titled "Documenting Science: How to Shoot Usable Video of your Research" from 9:45-11:30 a.m. on April 21 in Foster Auditorium in Pattee Library. At this seminar, Steinman will discuss inexpensive and effective methods of recording high-quality media in the field.

Penn State’s Student Programming Association and LionTutors welcome Emmy Award-winning Conservationist and Environmental Journalist Jeff Corwin to Alumni Hall at 8 p.m. Friday, April 22. Admission is free with a Penn State University Park Student ID.

The Sustainable Communities Collaborative will host the Spring 2016 Campus and Community Sustainability Expo from 5 to 7 p.m. Monday, April 25, at the State College Borough Building, 243 S. Allen Street. The expo will feature more than 20 projects undertaken by Penn State students on behalf of State College Borough, Ferguson Township, Foxdale Village, The Nature Inn, Friends & Farmers Co-op, Minitab, New Leaf, Penn State’s Transportation Services and Penn State’s Arts Council. In addition, Green Teams will showcase projects that they have implemented to advance sustainability at the university.
