Student veterans host third annual ROY G. BIV Memorial Run

The Penn State Berks Student Veteran Organization will host its third annual ROY G. BIV Memorial Run at 2:30 p.m. Saturday, April 23. The event is named for some of the colors used in the run, and the term “memorial” is used to recognize fallen soldiers. The event is a 5-K (3.1 mile) untimed “fun run” or 1-mile walk around the campus designed to combine a game of color tag with fitness and fun. All proceeds from the event will benefit the Penn State Berks Student Veteran Organization.

Check-in and last-minute registration begins at 1 p.m. in front of the Perkins Student Center. The run will begin at 2:30 p.m. and the starting line will be located behind the Beaver Community Center. Participants are invited to a lunch, including BBQ pulled pork and chicken, immediately following the event at the alumni pavilion.

The event is open to students, faculty, staff and the community. The cost to participate is $20 and it is free to students with valid Penn State ID. Interested parties can register online. Participants can also register on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays from 1-2:30 p.m. in the Perkins Student Center until April 18, as well as the day of the event. All individuals under the age of 18 must be accompanied by an adult. Registration includes an event t-shirt, sunglasses, bandana, and lunch.

The Penn State Berks Student Veteran Organization’s mission is to help student veterans achieve their educational goals at Penn State Berks while providing an environment in which student veterans have the opportunity to support and socialize with one another. The Penn State Berks Student Veteran Organization serves as a source of information, support, representation, and camaraderie to any and all students of prior and current military service seeking education at Penn State Berks.

This event is sponsored by Penn State Berks Student Support Services, Housing and Food Services, Maintenance and Operations, and Student Life; Berks County National Guard, Western Berks Ambulance Association, Berks County Veteran Affairs Office, and Kutztown University Military Club.
