Proposals sought for 2016 academic advising conference

Conference theme to explore transition as part of life and learning

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — The Penn State Division of Undergraduate Studies is accepting proposals through Friday, April 29, for the 15th annual Professional Development Conference on Academic Advising. This year’s conference will take place on Friday, Sept. 30, at The Penn Stater Hotel and Conference Center, and the theme will be "Transitions: Energizing Advising and Student Communities for Change.”

Conference sessions will address the various ways transition is part of life and learning and moving forward for students, academic advising professionals, higher education and society. Details about the theme and a link to the proposal submission form are available at https://dus.psu.edu/2016-fall-conference.

The uncertainty surrounding Pennsylvania's 2016-17 state budget may warrant an alternative delivery method for this year’s conference to allow the option of remote attendance as well as remote presentation. An alternative format would provide a cost-effective and exciting opportunity for advising professionals to share concepts and best practices in an interactive, Web-based environment. Regardless, all proposals are welcome; additional details will be published when known.

The Division of Undergraduate Studies, a unit within the Office of Undergraduate Education, is Penn State’s largest unit of enrollment for first-year students and leads the development of advising policies and practices, manages the University-wide academic information network, and provides general academic advising for current and prospective Penn State students.
