Five Penn State York men’s basketball players have earned awards for their work during the 2015-16 season.

“We are extremely proud of the effort our young men put forward both in the classroom and on the court," said Parrish Petry, head coach of the men’s basketball team at Penn State York.. “On the court, Judd Gemmill had an outstanding career here at Penn State York, walking away as a three-time conference champion. He certainly deserved being recognized as All-Conference Second Team player,” Petry continued. “Trent Thomas joined our team in January and was able to lead the conference in scoring. His value as a scorer on our team enabled us to make it to the semi-finals in our conference tournament.”Trent Thomas, who played guard for the York Nittany Lions, is a Red Lion High School graduate, and was recognized with a United State Collegiate Athletic Association All American Honorable Mention. In addition, Thomas was named a Penn State University Athletic Conference (PSUAC) All-Conference Second Team choice and was a player of the week. Fellow teammate, Jud Gemmill, who played guard for York, is a Dallastown High School graduate, and was also named PSUAC All-Conference Second Team.

In addition, three men’s basketball players earned the distinction of Penn State University Athletic Conference (PSUAC) Academic All-Conference. This honor is bestowed on those student athletes who have a semester grade-point average (GPA) of 3.0 or higher during the semester of competition, or a cumulative grade-point average of 3.0 or higher and completion of at least 24 credits. Honorees include Christian Buser, a graduate of Eastern York High School, York, Pennsylvania; Damien Hamler, a graduate of New Town High School, Owings Mills, Maryland; and Isaiah Shaffer, a graduate of Central York High School, York, Pennsylvania.

“For Christian, Damien, and Isaiah to be recognized as outstanding student-athletes within the conference is a tremendous accomplishment,” said Petry. “We applaud all of these guys for their efforts both on the court and in the classroom,” he said.
