A guide to fall 2016 registration with LionPATH

Registration at Penn State for the fall 2016 semester is right around the corner. This also marks the beginning of a new enrollment process for the University. Students will now enroll in classes through LionPATH -- the new student information system.

To prepare for enrollment, here is a step-by-step guide of the new process in LionPATH:

  1. Be sure to complete the Consent to Do Business Electronically and the Pre-Registration Activity Guide.
  2. Know your enrollment date

Enrollment begins on March 17, for graduate students and March 23, for undergraduate students. Your enrollment date is located in the Enrollment Dates box in the LionPATH Student Center.

  1. Search for classes and use class attributes

Students can search for classes within the LionPATH Student Center via the Class Search or by using Schedule Builder. Course codes will look different (ex., no spaces between characters), and there no longer will be course suffixes to denote attributes (example: ‘W’ for Writing Across the Curriculum, ‘H’ for honors, etc.).

You can search for class attributes (i.e., general education requirements, honors designation, etc.) by selecting the “Search by Course Attributes” tab in Schedule Builder, or by opening the “Additional Search Criteria” option in the Class Search and completing the course attribute dropdown boxes.

  1. Plan potential schedules

Schedule Builder allows students to map out schedules by comparing possible class combinations and blocking break times. Students can then refine their class selections until they come up with their preferred schedule, which can then be added to the LionPATH shopping cart.

For fall 2016, continue to use your degree audit in eLion to view degree requirements. The LionPATH degree audit won’t be released to students until later in fall 2016.

  1. Add courses to the shopping cart

Use the shopping cart to hold your classes until your scheduled enrollment date. Placing a class in the shopping cart does not mean that you’re enrolled in the course or that a space will be held in the class.

  1. Validate your courses

It’s recommended that you validate the courses in your shopping cart before your enrollment date. Validating checks if you can enroll in the selected courses or if there is a potential problem such as a time conflict, prerequisite requirement, course control, etc. Validating will give you the opportunity to correct any course selection errors before your enrollment appointment.

  1. Enroll in courses

Once you’re able to enroll, go to your shopping cart, select the classes you wish to schedule, click the “enroll” button, then verify that you are registered for the desired classes.
