Penn State Smeal Alumni Society Board honors 2016 award winners

The Penn State Smeal College of Business Alumni Society Board has announced its 2016 Alumni Society Board award winners. Two students and six alumni were recognized on March 18 at the 2016 Awards Program and Hammond Society Recognition Dinner at the Penn Stater.

The awards and the 2016 recipients are as follows:

Board Sponsorship AwardRecognizes a Smeal graduating senior for demonstrating outstanding leadership and scholarship. The recipient is given the opportunity to be an ex-officio member of the Alumni Society Board for the year following graduation.Recipient: Halie Ellis, 2016 marketing

Smeal Student Diversity AwardRecognizes a Smeal student for leadership in an individual or group project that furthers diversity efforts at Smeal.Recipient: Tyler Drago, 2016 finance

Smeal Alumni Diversity AwardRecognizes a graduate who has demonstrated a commitment to the college’s goal of being a diverse and mutually supportive community that provides a climate of sensitivity, open-mindedness, and respect.Recipient: Karen Hughes Quintos, 1985 business logistics

Smeal Outstanding Young Alumnus/Alumna AwardRecognizes a graduate for career achievements and community service.Recipient: David Horowitz, 2004 finance

Smeal Outstanding Volunteer AwardRecognizes a graduate for outstanding service to the Smeal Alumni Society.Recipient: Brian Laubscher, 1989 business logistics, 2004 executive master of business administration

Smeal Alumni Service AwardRecognizes a graduate whose exceptional allegiance and involvement with Smeal has brought distinction to the college and the University.Recipient: Michael Poerksen, 1985 accounting

Smeal Undergraduate Distinguished Achievement AwardRecognizes an undergraduate alumnus/alumna whose career achievements have enhanced the prestige of the college.Recipient: Julie McHugh, 1986 finance

Smeal Graduate Distinguished Achievement AwardRecognizes a graduate alumnus/alumna whose career achievements have enhanced the prestige of the college.Recipient: Robert Malecky, 1988 master of business administration

Four new members were also inducted into the Hammond Society, which is named in recognition of J.D. Hammond, dean of Smeal from 1989-99.

Induction into the Hammond Society serves to honor alumni who have demonstrated a commitment to Smeal and to foster their continued involvement in the college. Membership is offered to alumni of the college who have served out their maximum number of terms on the Smeal Alumni Society Board as an at-large director.
