Students earn top finishes in statewide competition

Eight Penn State students collected a total of 12 awards, including four first-place finishes, during the 2016 Student Keystone Press Awards among students in competition's large-school division.

Cameron Hart took home two first-place finishes, including the best sports photo, a shot of Penn State former quarterback Christian Hackenberg diving into the end zone, and best feature photo for a picture of Cuban baseball fans from the John Curley Center for Sports Journalism’s trip to Cuba with Penn State baseball in November.

Other first-place winners included Caity Kramer for her photo story about the life of a Penn State student who is a quadruple amputee, and Garrett Ross for his story focusing on concussions in sports.

The awards recognize college journalism that provides relevance, integrity and initiative in serving readers. The large-school division of the competition (Division I) includes Pennsylvania colleges and universities with enrollment of 10,000 or more.
