April 5 event to honor survivors of violence

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. -- On Tuesday, April 5, Penn State's Center for Women Students will host its annual program to raise awareness about violence and the journeys of survivors.

The event, Honoring Survival, Transforming the Spirit, will be held at 6:30 p.m. on April 5 in the Pasquerilla Spiritual Center's Memorial Lounge. It is designed to honor the strength and resiliency of survivors of sexual, emotional and physical violence, and those who support them in their healing process.

The intention is to bring these issues to light, focus on the courage and tenacity of the survivors, and highlight Penn State’s resources for those for victims of violence. The event focuses on the healing journey from victim to survivor, rather than on the victimization itself. Hear the stories of survivors and those who support them through poetry, storytelling and music.

Survivors of sexual violence or other forms of interpersonal violence who wish to share their experience at the program may contact Jennifer Pencek at the Center for Women Students at jlp35@psu.edu to discuss.
