Second annual Penn State Addiction Symposium set for April 4

HERSHEY, Pa. — The second annual Penn State Addiction Symposium will be held from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Monday, April 4, in the Junker Auditorium on the Penn State Hershey campus. This year’s keynote speaker will be George F. Koob, director of the National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism.

The Penn State Addiction Symposium explores the breadth of preclinical and clinical addiction research being conducted across Penn State campuses. It promotes integration across disciplines and fosters connections among researchers and clinicians to advance the understanding of the disease and to explore novel avenues for treatment.

All faculty, students and staff are welcome to present posters of original research in the field of addiction. Email Sarah Ballard the abstract, including the title, author(s), affiliations and first author’s email address by March 7.

Faculty are invited to present on research or a topic of concentration in the field of addiction. These five-minute presentations should be accessible to diverse backgrounds. Email Ballard a title of the presentation with a few sentences describing the talk by March 7.

Attendees may attend all or part of the symposium. Koob’s keynote, “Neuroplasticity in the Brain Stress Systems in Addiction,” will be held from noon to 1 p.m. and includes lunch when registered.

To register for the symposium or the keynote, email Ballard or call 717-531-4214 by March 23. Reduced-rate hotel rooms are available for branch campus faculty, students and postdocs by calling the Comfort Inn at 717-566-2050.

This event is supported by a grant from the Penn State Hershey Neuroscience Institute.
