Chynna Gehman named new head women's volleyball coach

Chynna Gehman has been named the new head women's volleyball coach at Penn State Lehigh Valley. Gehman is entering her first year of coaching on campus, bringing five years of experience at various levels with her.

Gehman began her coaching career in 2011 coaching club volleyball for Push the Rock and Club Lehigh before moving to southern Californina in 2013. In California, Gehman began her head coaching debut with Vista Mar School. She took the junior varsity team to an undefeated season finishing 14-0. Gehman became heavily involved in the southern California club volleyball circuit, coaching three club teams while working with gold medal coach, Marcio Sicoli. Gehman moved back to Pennsylvania in 2015 and began coaching at Brandywine Middle School and at Brandywine Volleyball Academy (BVA). 

Before Gehman began coaching, she was a standout volleyball player for Brandywine Heights High School, earning four varsity letters. Gehman led Brandywine Heights to two PIAA state final second place finishes, three division championships, three Berks County championships, and two district championships. Gehman was voted all-county, all-division, all-district, and all-state multiple times throughout her high school career.

She went on to play volleyball for Kutztown University. Gehman duel majored in Marketing and Management at Kutztown University and graduated with a BSBA in May 2014.  She also recieved her Personal Training Certification from National Academy of Sports Medicine (NASM) in February 2015 and have been training ever since. 

Gehman will take over a relatively new volleyball program at Penn State Lehigh Valley. The program will be going into its third season as a member of the Penn State University Athletic Conference (PSUAC).  In the program's first season, the team qualified for PSUAC playoffs and had one player named Newcomer of the Year and First Team All-Conference.
