Silent Auction for Penn State Lehigh Valley benefiting THON begins Feb. 1

The Penn State Lehigh Valley benefiting THON team’s annual silent auction will be held Feb. 1-5 in Centre Hall at the campus in Center Valley.

Students and faculty who wish to bid on items can do so by leaving their contact information on a sheet by the item. The highest bidders by the end of day on Feb. 5 will win the items. All of the proceeds from this event will go directly to Penn State Lehigh Valley benefiting THON and its mission to defeat pediatric cancer.

To prepare for the silent auction, the Penn State Lehigh Valley benefiting THON team will accept donations of items for the auction until Jan. 31. Items can be dropped off in room 218. In past auctions, donations have included items such as new electronics, gift cards, handbags, Penn State gear and apparel and tickets to events.

Throughout the week of the auction, Penn State Lehigh Valley benefiting THON will raise money to send the Penn State Lehigh Valley THON child, Sean Getz and his family to the Panhellenic Dance Marathon (THON) 2016, which will take place Feb. 19-21 at the Bryce Jordan Center on the University Park campus. During the event, more than 700 students from Penn State campuses and organizations will dance continuously for 46 hours to raise money for pediatric cancer research and treatments.

Twelve-year-old Getz and his family had been attending THON weekend every year since his diagnosis nine years ago, but for the first time had to miss last year’s due to lack of funds. The goal of Penn State Lehigh Valley benefiting THON is to raise enough money to cover Sean and his family’s hotel costs so they can take part in the event again this year.
