2016 holiday schedule for employees announced

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — The Office of Human Resources has announced the 2016 holiday schedule for University employees.

The days are:

  • New Year's Day — Jan. 1
  • Memorial Day — May 30
  • Independence Day — July 4
  • Labor Day — Sept. 5
  • Thanksgiving Day — Nov. 24
  • Winter Break — Dec. 25, 26, 27, 28, 29 and 30; and Jan. 2, 2017

Friday, Dec. 23, is not a University holiday, but in order to provide a more desirable and efficient application of time off, Penn State offices and operations, except for essential services, will be closed on Dec. 23.

University policies provide that if a holiday falls on an employee's regularly scheduled day off, the employee receives another day off with pay to be used at another time. Employees who normally do not work Sundays will receive a compensatory day off for the Dec. 25 holiday. The compensatory day earned for Dec. 25 will be applied for work absences for Dec. 23. Employees in essential services who qualify for compensatory days but must work on Dec. 23 will have a compensatory day off that may be used at a later time.

This schedule does not apply to the College of Medicine at the Milton S. Hershey Medical Center.
