Greater Allegheny volleyball team collecting Soles 4 Souls

In keeping with the campus vision to always care for and advance the success of our communities, the Penn State Greater Allegheny studen- athletes are always finding ways to give of their time and volunteer efforts.

The women's volleyball team is collecting shoes for the Soles4Souls nonprofit organization. The team is looking for any kind of shoe (boots, sandals, sneakers, heels, etc.), any size shoe (infant, children, adult), and shoes in any condition. Any shoes that cannot be donated will be recycled but they prefer shoes in decent condition.

Donation boxes are placed around campus in the: Student Community Center by the information desk, Fitness Center, Residence Hall, Wunderley Gymnasium, and the Kelly Library. Anyone with a large donation should contact Assistant Athletic Director Tracy Gibbs (tng2@psu.edu) to arrange a drop-off or pick-up.

Gibbs said, “We chose the Soles4Souls organization because they are a great nonprofit group that provides donations to those in need both in the U.S. and also in other countries around the world.  We thought it would be great to get the campus community involved since it's a simple way to make a difference for others.  We have a great start to the collection with some brand new shoe donations and lots of used shoes of all sizes.”

"I think that our Soles4Souls collection was a great thing to bring to campus,” said women’s volleyball player Emily Taylor.  “I was excited to start a collection for shoes on campus because I have traveled and seen firsthand the difference that organizations like this can make in the lives of people in developing countries. The community here is very close and everyone is really involved. Even though our campus is small we have a great potential to all come together and make a big difference. So far I think that our collection is going well. I can't wait to see the final results once everyone comes back from winter break."
