Schreyer Institute's annual professional development conference set for Jan. 8

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — The Schreyer Institute for Teaching Excellence’s annual professional development conference for graduate students and postdocs will be held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 8, 2016, in Room 302 of the HUB. Faculty and graduate students from many different disciplines will present information about enhancing the graduate student or postdoc experience and preparing for the job market.

In the morning, a plenary panel of new faculty will share their advice for those still in graduate school. After an informal networking lunch provided by the Schreyer Institute, an interdisciplinary panel of faculty from various Penn State locations and other colleges will answer questions about what search committees are looking for, with a focus on jobs that include teaching as part of the responsibilities.

In addition, concurrent sessions will focus on topics such as creating effective adviser and advisee relationships, preparing teaching portfolios and what they might look like in different disciplines, gaining administrative experience during graduate school, and getting effective feedback on one's teaching.

The conference is free. For more Information or to register, visit http://tinyurl.com/jan8grads
