UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. -- Penn State men’s hockey freshman forward Andrew Sturtz was named the Big Ten’s Second Star of the Week on Tuesday by the league office. Sturtz tallied two goals, including a short-handed tally, in Friday’s 5-2 win as Penn State returned from Alaska Anchorage unbeaten with a 1-0-1 mark.

Sturtz earned his second multi-goal game of the season on Friday by scoring the opening two tallies just 89 second apart. His first goal was an even-strength tally before doubling his total with his first short-handed goal of his career.

Sturtz ended the contest with a plus-two rating. His two goals were tied for the most in the conference this week as the Nittany Lions were the only team in action to go unbeaten. Penn State is off to its best record in the Division I era at 7-2-3 overall.

Sturtz is tied for second in the Big Ten with six tallies this season and trails only his teammate, Chase Berger for the lead (8). The Buffalo native is the fourth different Nittany Lion to earn weekly plaudits from the Big Ten. Over the past two seasons, Penn State has received 14 weekly laurels, 10 of which came during 2014-15.
