CAS professor recognized with Distinguished Scholar Award

Stephen H. Browne, professor of communication arts and sciences at Penn State, received the Distinguished Scholar Award from the National Communication Association (NCA). The award was created in 1991 to recognize and reward NCA members for a lifetime of scholarly achievement in the study of human communication.

Browne is an award-winning author of several books on political rhetoric, particularly the 18t- and 19th centuries, including "Jefferson's Call for Nationhood: First Inaugural Address" (Texas A&M University Press, 2003) and the forthcoming "The Ides of War: George Washington and the Newburgh Crisis" (University of South Carolina Press). He also serves on the editorial board of two academic journals, and previously served as editor or associate editor of five communication journals.

Distinguished Scholar Award recipients are selected to showcase the communication profession. The award is supported by the Mark L. Knapp Distinguished Scholar Fund. Since 1992, those recognized as NCA Distinguished Scholars nominate and elect members to join this select group.
