UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. -- More than 50 CEOs and representatives from educational technology companies including Apple, IBM, Inside Track and Tutor.com will be in attendance when the Penn State EdTech Network hosts a summit for thought leaders Nov. 2–4 at the Penn Stater Conference Center Hotel.

“The success of Penn State World Campus has attracted much attention from the educational technology sector,” said Craig Weidemann, vice president for Penn State Outreach and vice provost for Online Education. “The summit provides first, an opportunity for the University to consider areas of potential collaboration with select companies to improve student learning and success. And second, a forum to advance President Eric Barron’s vision for Invent Penn State.”

President Barron will kick off the summit.

Jaime Casap, chief education evangelist at Google, will deliver the keynote address. Casap was part of the original team that launched Google Apps for universities and K-12.

“Technology is not the sole solution in reimagining education. It is a powerful enabling and supporting capability,” Casap said. “It is meant to be used by teachers and professors to think about how they can use these tools to empower students with the knowledge, skills and abilities they need to thrive in our new, globally connected, knowledge-based economy.”

Casap’s summit presentation will be live streamed at 9 a.m. Nov. 3.

Break-out sessions will give attendees and select teams from Penn State the opportunity to tackle challenges and develop viable solutions for topics including: fostering academic excellence, creating the next generation digital learning environment, guiding student and alumni engagement and scaling operations for the future.

Penn State student entrepreneurs will showcase projects including Pennie the CoRobot, Lion Launchpad Accelerator and Learn Nano at 6 p.m. Nov. 3 at the Hintz Alumni Center.
