Seniors: Learn about health insurance options at Oct. 22 talk

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. -- Pennsylvania and Penn State leaders want to remind graduating seniors about an important step many students will need to take after graduation -- choosing health insurance.

The Affordable Care Act requires everyone to obtain health insurance, but buying insurance for the first time can seem daunting to many students.

Insurance Commissioner Teresa Miller will join University officials and student leaders at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, Oct. 22, in the Charlotte Ray Memorial Lounge of the HUB-Robeson Center to explain what students' legal responsibilities are and help them through the health insurance process.

"As graduates enter the work force or continue with educational aspirations, the decision on health insurance coverage becomes a very important one," said Dr. Robin E. Oliver, director of University Health Services at Penn State. "With several options to choose from, our newest alumni need to educate themselves on the available plans and choose one that suits them best."
