Students volunteer in the community

Penn State Berks students will be “lending their paws for a good cause” as they volunteer at a variety of nonprofit organizations during the academic year. The following is a list of community service initiatives in November and December 2015.

1 to 2 p.m. Friday, Nov. 6, Multipurpose Room of the Perkins Student Center Students will make blankets for cancer patients at Reading Hospital. Sponsored by the Penn State Berks Student Government Association.

9:30 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 11In recognition of Veterans Day, students will serve breakfast to the veterans residing at Country Meadows, in Wyomissing.

1 to 2:10 p.m. Friday, Nov. 13Volunteers will “socialize” the animals at the Animal Rescue League in an effort to make them more adoptable for the public.

Sunday, Nov. 15Students will put out boxes on campus for the first can drive to benefit Camp Out for Hunger, which will be held in April 2016.

7 p.m. Monday, Nov. 16, Lion’s DenHunger Awareness Dinner–Students will be asked to experience hunger and privilege in a unique way during an on-campus dinner experience.  

5 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 19PAL Thanksgiving Dinner– This event has become a tradition for Penn State Berks students over the years. Students groups, such as the Dance and Step Teams, will perform and Berks students will do crafts with the Olivet youth and later serve them Thanksgiving dinner at the Walnut Street location.

5 to 8 p.m. Monday, Nov. 30Students will prepare, cook and serve a meal for the clients at Opportunity House.

4 to 5 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 2Students will participate in a Reading Enrichment Program with the youth at the Olivet Boys and Girls Club Walnut Street location.

5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 9Students will prepare, cook and serve a meal for the clients at Opportunity House.
