WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. — The family of a retired Pennsylvania College of Technology faculty member who died earlier this year has established a scholarship fund in his memory.
The Dr. William B. Urosevich Memorial Scholarship will benefit students who are enrolled full time in the physician assistant major, have provided service to their country, and have demonstrated a generous and selfless attitude.
Urosevich was a professor of biology (anatomy and physiology) at Penn College from 1993 until his retirement in 2010. He received the college’s Excellence in Teaching Award in 1997 and the Veronica M. Muzic Master Teacher Award — the highest honor for Penn College faculty — in 2008. Outside of the classroom, he was an adviser to the Wildcat Power Lifting team.
“Dr. Urosevich was a well-respected and popular professor among both students and his faculty colleagues,” said Robb Dietrich, executive director of the Penn College Foundation. “It is extremely appropriate that his dedication to students will be carried on by this scholarship.”
”My husband valued education and the doors it could open for people,” added his wife, Patti. “This scholarship is designed to recognize individuals who share his dual commitment to public service and health care.”
Prior to joining the Penn College faculty, Col. Urosevich served as the U.S. Army Reserve optometry consultant to the Army surgeon general and chief of optometry, U.S. Army Reserve. He later practiced optometry in Lewisburg.
The scholarship fund will begin making awards in spring 2016 while building to endowed status. When it is endowed, the fund will become a permanent source for scholarships.
