Student-focused lecture to discuss ways to enhance understanding while learning

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — Michelene Chi, an endowed professor and director of the Learning Sciences Institute at Arizona State University, will present a free talked titled “Ways to Enhance Your Understanding While You Are Learning” at 7 p.m. on Monday, Oct. 19, in the Paterno Library’s Foster Auditorium.

Chi, a cognitive learning scientist, will be discussing ways in which students can enhance their own learning by the activities they undertake while learning, that is, while listening to a lecture, reading a text, or watching an instructor work out a problem on a whiteboard.

The talk is directed to undergraduate students but is open to anyone in the Penn State community. Chi's appearance is sponsored by the Schreyer Honors College, the Schreyer Institute for Teaching Excellence, and University Libraries.

Chi will also give the keynote address at “Schreyer Conference 2015: Transformative Teaching and Learning,” which will take place from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.  on Tuesday, Oct. 20, at the Penn Stater Conference Center. Information and registration for the conference can be found at https://www.schreyerinstitute.psu.edu/schreyerconference.
