Penn State to participate in National Science Foundation health care meeting

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — Several faculty, staff and graduate students affiliated with the Center for Integrated Healthcare Delivery Systems (CIHDS) will be representing Penn State at the National Science Foundation’s (NSF) Center for Health Organization Transformation (CHOT) Industry Advisory Board (IAB) Meeting Oct. 8-9 in Boston.

CHOT is an NSF Industry/University Cooperate Research Center Program that includes CIHDS at Penn State and other research centers at Georgia Tech, Northeastern University and Texas A&M University. The program aims to advance knowledge and practice of transformational strategies in evidence-based management, information technology, clinical practice, and organizational learning through cooperative research among universities, health systems, and other health-related industries.

The IAB meeting will feature working sessions, research panels, poster sessions, and collaborative roundtable discussions for CHOT directors and graduate students who participate in their university’s CHOT-related research center.

Highmark and Verizon have been strong industry supporters and members of the Penn State CHOT site over the past four years, and James Gigliotti, director of provider analytics at Highmark, chairs the IAB.

Those that will represent CIHDS at the meeting include: Nathaniel Bastian (graduate student, industrial engineering); Harleah Buck, assistant professor, College of Nursing; Christopher DeFlitch, associate professor and chief medical information officer, Penn State Milton S. Hershey Medical Center; Harriet Black Nembhard, professor of industrial engineering, director of CIHDS and site director of CHOT; Mehmet Kilinc (postdoctoral scholar, industrial engineering); Lilin Ma (graduate student, industrial engineering); Shruthi Reddy (graduate student, industrial engineering); Abhinav Singh (graduate student, industrial engineering); Eric Swenson (graduate student, industrial engineering); and Yifeng Yu (graduate student, industrial engineering).
