Truth and Reconciliation series to host talk on Black Lives Matter movement

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — As part of its Truth and Reconciliation series, the Penn State Institute for the Arts and Humanities is sponsoring a speech by James Braxton Peterson. Peterson, who is director of Africana studies and associate professor of English at Lehigh University, will speak about the Black Lives Matter movement. The brief talk will focus on themes like the adoption of Kendrick Lamar’s “Alright” as an anthem to the movement, the #SayHerName campaign that is challenging blind spots within the movement, and the healing of the Emmanuel AME Church community in Charleston, South Carolina.

Peterson’s talk will be held at 7 p.m. on Monday, Oct. 5, in the Attic Room of the State Theatre and is open to the community.
