UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. -- A communications scholar is set to present a free public lecture titled “The Queer Politics of Coalition Building” at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 15, in Foster Auditorium of Paterno Library.

Karma Chávez, an associate professor of rhetoric, politics and culture at the University of Wisconsin, will discuss coalition building across activisms and how to apply strategizing techniques to foster alliances between social movement groups. Chávez is the author of “Queer Migration Politics: Activist Rhetoric and Coalitional Possibilities.”

The event is organized by the Penn State Women’s Studies Graduate Organization, which represents and supports the interests of graduate student majors and minors in women’s studies, as well as those interested in or affiliated with the program.
