Three Penn State College of Communications student-produced television programs were honored as 2015 Mid-Atlantic Emmy Award recipients in college/university production categories.

“I’m very proud of our students and the high quality of their work,” said Steve Kraycik, director of student television and online operations. “They’re consistently winning awards at the regional and national level. That’s great for their resumes and they’re getting exposure to news directors and hiring managers at TV stations across the country.”

The March 20, 2015, episode of “Centre County Report,” a weekly news show, was chosen as the top newscast. Also, “Centre County Report in Cuba,” an hour-long TV special that resulted from a trip to Havana for an international reporting class, was selected as the best long form nonfiction program.

Individually, a segment produced by Zack Rickens and Meghan Caffrey titled “Making A Splash,” was honored as the best in the sports category. The piece focused on a new piece of equipment used by the Penn State swimming teams.

Over the past three years, programs produced in the College of Communications have earned nine Mid-Atlantic Emmy Awards, with “Centre County Report” being selected as the best newscast each of those years.
