Faculty, staff flu vaccine clinics to start Sept. 17

Even though it’s still hot outside, flu season is not far off. Penn State faculty and staff can protect themselves against the flu by getting a free flu vaccine right at their workplace. The Employee Benefits Division of the Office of Human Resources offers flu vaccine clinics at all campus locations and at the Freeport and Warminster ARL facilities. This year’s flu vaccine program begins on Sept. 17 and ends on Nov. 13.

Flu vaccines are free for any full- or part-time Penn State employee regardless of enrollment in the health plan. A spouse who is enrolled in an employee’s Penn State Highmark plan may also receive the vaccine at no charge, and spouses who are not enrolled in a Penn State Highmark plan may receive the vaccine for $24.

To register for the vaccine, go to the emPOWER registration system on the Office of Human Resources’ website at https://app3.ohr.psu.edu/emPower/frm_login.cfm .

Employees and their spouses who are enrolled on one of the Penn State Highmark plans but are unable to attend one of the Penn State clinics may receive the vaccine for free through their physician’s office as per Highmark’s preventive schedule: http://ohr.psu.edu/assets/benefits/insurance/health/documents/PreventiveSchedule.pdf . Most physicians’ offices request that an individual calls ahead to schedule his or her vaccine, but no out-of-pocket expenses should apply.
