Nominations sought for President's Award for Excellence in Academic Integration

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. -- Nominations are being accepted for the 2016 President’s Award for Excellence in Academic Integration, an honor recognizing faculty members who have exhibited extraordinary achievement in the integration of teaching and research or creative accomplishments, and service.

The award was established in 1996 to recognize faculty members who have excelled in all three areas of their professions and consists of a specially designed certificate and a cash gift of $3,000. Recipients of the award typically have a strong outreach component as a substantive element of their scholarship. The communities reached by faculty outreach activities are generally those not normally encountered during performance of normal scholarly activities. The 2016 recipient will be recognized at the Faculty/Staff Awards Luncheon April 21, 2016, in the Ballroom of The Nittany Lion Inn.Nominations are being solicited from the academic deans and should include evidence of superior teaching, including student letters and evaluations; research or creative accomplishments; and service to the University, public and/or professional. A curriculum vitae and supporting letters, from professional colleagues internal and external to Penn State, should speak to the candidate’s major achievements, especially innovative approaches developed by the nominee to engage the public — that is, constituencies that are not traditionally engaged by the discipline. Letters from the dean of the college and the department head, or an appropriate academic administrator, should speak to the candidate’s ability to integrate all aspects of his or her academic life with outreach and/or public service. The nominating packets should be no longer than 30 pages. One or two nominations may be submitted to Kristin Woolever, chair of the selection committee for The President’s Award for Excellence in Academic Integration, 201 Old Main, University Park, PA 16802. The deadline is Jan. 11, 2016.For more information, call Blannie E. Bowen at 814-863-7494 or email bxb1@psu.edu.
