LGBTQA Student Resource Center releases fall events schedule

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. -- The LGBTQA (Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer and Ally) Student Resource Center will sponsor and co-sponsor numerous LGBTQA supportive events this fall on the University Park campus.

Events will start with a welcome reception from 4:30-6:30 p.m. on Sept. 9 in Alumni Hall in the Hetzel Union Building (HUB). This annual event provides an opportunity for LGBTQA students and their allies to learn more about services and programs that the center offers. In addition, ally offices from around campus will have representatives available to discuss the services and support they provide.

In October, the center is sponsoring numerous special lectures and events for National Coming Out Week. The LGBTQA Student Resource Center will be sponsoring a lecture by Todrick Hall, who is well known on YouTube and MTV, at 8 p.m. on Oct. 12 in the HUB, with a question and answer session immediately following the presentation. The center will also be sponsoring Lea DeLaria, most recently known for her role as Big Boo on the Netflix hit series "Orange is the New Black." DeLaria is also an activist, stand-up comedian, writer, singer and actor. Additionally, the center will host an open house from 3-5 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 10 at 101 Boucke Building. Back by popular demand, "LATE NIGHTS at The Center" will also be resuming on Thursday evenings.

Additionally, the center, along with UPAC (the University Park Allocation Committee), co-sponsors a segment called the Faculty Lecture Series each academic year. For fall 2015, the lineup will consist of three guest speakers recommended by faculty members to speak on campus. These presentations cover numerous topics and have mass appeal.

For a full listing of all events sponsored and co-sponsored by the LGBTQA Student Resource Center, or to be added to the Rainbow listserv, send an email to lgbtqa@psu.edu or visit studentaffairs.psu.edu/lgbtqa.
